Frequently asked questions
I live abroad but have UK income — can you help?
Yes. We advise non-residents and globally mobile individuals on UK tax, residence and remittance.
Can you handle transfer pricing?
Yes. We prepare policies and documentation that satisfy HMRC and overseas tax authorities.
Do you work with overseas accountants?
We do. We coordinate with your local advisers, or introduce trusted partners, for joined-up advice.
Do you advise overseas companies on cross-border tax for a UK project?
Yes. This is a large part of our international work: an engineering, installation or manufacturing company from Poland, Slovenia or elsewhere in Europe wins a UK contract and needs to know what the UK will tax. We review the permanent establishment position under the relevant treaty (a building site or installation project usually becomes a permanent establishment only after twelve months), UK VAT as a non-established business, the Construction Industry Scheme, and the 183-day and PDA1 position of posted staff, then register and run whatever is needed. See our UK business expansion page for the full checklist.
Which double taxation treaties do you work with most?
The UK has treaties with around 120 countries. We work most often with the UK treaties with Poland (2006), Slovenia (2007), Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, the Nordic countries, the Gulf states, the USA and the main Commonwealth jurisdictions, each read against the synthesised text as modified by the Multilateral Instrument. Our country desks link the treaty position to practical UK registration steps.
Can a cross-border project be run through our home company rather than a UK subsidiary?
Often yes, for a defined project. The choice turns on how long the work will last, whether a UK base or dependent agent will exist, who the customer is for VAT purposes, and how many staff will be in the UK and for how long. We model both routes and recommend the one with the lower UK tax and compliance footprint, then revisit it if the project extends.
