What exactly is an ACSP?

An Authorised Corporate Service Provider is a firm registered with Companies House to carry out identity verification and file on a company’s behalf under the new transparency rules.

How long does it take to form a company?

In most cases we can incorporate your company the same working day once we have the information and verification we need.

Do I have to verify my identity?

Yes. Companies House now requires directors and people with significant control to verify their identity, which we complete for you.

Can a non-UK resident set up a UK limited company?

Yes. Directors and shareholders can live outside the UK. The company must have a registered office at a physical address in the UK, in the same country it is registered in (a company registered in Scotland needs a Scottish address), and every director and person with significant control must verify their identity with Companies House.

Can overseas directors verify their identity from abroad?

Yes. Identity verification has been a legal requirement since 18 November 2025 for new and existing directors and people with significant control, and it can be done from any country, either through GOV.UK One Login or through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider such as TaxDigit. In most cases you only verify once.

What is a Companies House personal code?

It is a unique identifier issued when your identity is verified. It belongs to you, not to the company, so the same code is used for every UK company where you are a director or person with significant control. People with significant control have a 14-day window to provide it.

What does Companies House charge to register a company?

The statutory fee is £100 to incorporate online or through software, or £124 on paper. The annual confirmation statement costs £50 online. These are Companies House fees, separate from any professional fee.

Is TaxDigit registered with Companies House as an ACSP?

Yes. TaxDigit is a Companies House Authorised Corporate Service Provider (reference AP019483) and is supervised by HMRC for anti-money laundering. We verify directors and people with significant control in-house, including those living overseas, and then request their Companies House personal code.

What happens after the company is registered?

The company needs a business bank account, registration for Corporation Tax with HMRC, and a plan for its first accounts, confirmation statement and, where turnover will pass £90,000, VAT. We can handle each of these and introduce banking partners for companies whose directors live abroad.

A newly registered company still needs somewhere to be paid, and several high-street banks will not open an account for a company whose directors are all based overseas.
