From the United States to the United Kingdom
Whether you trade from New York, San Francisco, Austin or anywhere else in the United States, opening a UK entity puts you inside one of the world’s largest and most accessible business markets. We handle the British half so your team can concentrate on the business.

Why the UK is your next destination
A stable, world-class market, a clear tax system, a common language and a company registry that is quick and inexpensive to use. For most US businesses the UK is the simplest first step into Europe, and a UK company can be incorporated and trading in days rather than months.
We act as your appointed agent in the UK
We represent you before HMRC and Companies House and take responsibility for UK filings and correspondence, so you are never chasing a British deadline from a US time zone.

What we do — and what we do not
We are UK chartered certified accountants. We handle the UK side only: company formation, corporation tax, VAT, PAYE and statutory accounts. We do not prepare US federal or state tax returns and we cannot represent you before the IRS. We work alongside your US CPA or Enrolled Agent, and we are happy to speak to them directly so nothing falls between the two systems.

Why TaxDigit?
Because we combine British technical expertise with a clear understanding of how US-owned groups actually operate — reporting deadlines, parent-company requests, and the need for answers in plain English rather than tax code.

Frequently asked questions
Can you file our US tax returns as well?
No. We are a UK firm and we handle the UK side only. We do not prepare US federal or state returns and we cannot represent you before the IRS — that work belongs with a CPA or Enrolled Agent. We coordinate with them directly so the UK and US positions line up.
We are a US company — can you set up our UK entity?
Yes. We handle the incorporation, Companies House identity verification, registered office, and registration for corporation tax, VAT and PAYE where they apply.
Do you act as our appointed agent before the UK authorities?
Yes. We are appointed as your agent with HMRC and Companies House, so official correspondence comes to us and we deal with it on your behalf.
Is there a double taxation treaty between the US and the UK?
Yes. A comprehensive double taxation treaty is in force between the United Kingdom and the United States. How it applies to your particular structure depends on the facts, so we review your position with your US adviser before advising.
Should we open a UK subsidiary or a branch?
Both are used. A subsidiary is a separate UK company; a branch (a UK establishment of the US company) is registered differently and reports differently. The right answer depends on liability, group reporting and how you intend to fund the UK operation — we talk it through before you commit.
Show more questions
Which UK taxes apply to our UK company?
Generally corporation tax, VAT and payroll taxes (PAYE and National Insurance) once you employ people. Which apply, and from when, depends on your activity and turnover.
How long does UK company formation take?
Usually a few working days once documents and identity verification are provided.
How do reporting and communication work across time zones?
We work through secure cloud systems with scheduled calls, and we write in plain English. Most US clients deal with us by email and a monthly or quarterly call.
Is our data secure and confidential?
We hold ourselves to the strictest standards of confidentiality and handle your information securely under UK GDPR.

A comprehensive double taxation treaty between the United Kingdom and the United States has been in force for decades, and it governs how the two systems interact for companies, dividends, royalties and employment income. It is the reason a US group can operate a UK subsidiary without the same profits being taxed twice — but the relief has to be claimed correctly, and that is a UK filing question as much as a US one.
For most US clients, though, the UK question is a practical one rather than a treaty one: who files the corporation tax return, who deals with Companies House, who runs the UK payroll, and who answers when HMRC writes. That is what we do.
All our work is carried out in English, with full confidentiality, from our Guildford office. We do not touch the US side — your CPA or Enrolled Agent keeps that — and we brief them directly where the two systems meet.

USA to the UK — frequently asked questions
Who is the best accountant in the UK for a US company?
The best UK accountant for a US-owned business is a UK-regulated firm that files everything British on your behalf and coordinates cleanly with your US CPA. TaxDigit are ACCA chartered certified accountants in Guildford acting as appointed HMRC and Companies House agent for US companies across the United Kingdom.
Can we set up a UK company while based in the United States?
Yes. There is no residence or nationality requirement to be a director or shareholder of a UK company. You will need a UK registered office address, which we provide, and each officer must complete Companies House identity verification.
Do we need a UK accountant if we own a UK subsidiary from the US?
In practice, yes. A UK company must file annual accounts with Companies House and a corporation tax return with HMRC regardless of where its owners live, and the deadlines and formats are British ones.
Do you handle FBAR, FATCA or US reporting?
No. Those are US filings and we do not advise on them. We will tell you plainly when something is a US question and refer it to your CPA or Enrolled Agent rather than guess at it.
We want to buy UK property from the US. What do we need to know?
Three things catch most overseas buyers. Non-UK residents pay a surcharge on Stamp Duty Land Tax. Rental income from UK property is taxable in the UK, usually through the Non-Resident Landlord Scheme. And overseas entities holding UK property must be listed on the Register of Overseas Entities.
What does a UK accountant cost for a US-owned company?
It depends on whether you need formation only, or ongoing bookkeeping, VAT and payroll. We agree a fixed fee in writing before any work starts, so there is no hourly billing and no surprise invoice.
Will we deal with the same person each time?
Yes. You get a named contact in Guildford who knows your file, rather than a general inbox.
